Walleye pro Mark Courts is in first place after day one of the Cabela’s National Walleye Tour championship on Devils Lake and connected waters. The tournament, which began this morning, is headquartered at Grahams Island State Park.
Courts, of Harris, Minn., and his amateur co-angler weighed in five walleyes for 19.78 pounds to lead after the first day.
Rounding out the top five in the pro division were:
Second: Joshua Vanderweide, Jenison, Mich., five walleyes, 18.31 pounds.
Third: Chris Gilman, Chisago City, Minn., five walleyes, 17.55 pounds.
Fourth: Gary Parsons, Gliddon, Wis., five walleyes, 17.01 pounds.
Fifth: Matthew Taylor, Devils Lake, five walleyes, 16.62 pounds.
Top five anglers in the co-angler division were:
First: Jason Converse, Arlington, S.D., 19.78 pounds.
Second: Craig Jameson, Somerset, Wis., 18.31 pounds.
Third: Ancil Reynolds, Chisago City, Minn., 17.55 pounds.
Fourth: Dan Kraft, Spirit Lake, Iowa: 17.01 pounds.
Fifth: John Spiegel, Appleton, Wis., 16.62 pounds.
A total of 82 pro anglers and 70 co-anglers are fishing the tournament, which continues Friday with the full field departing at 7 a.m. from tournament headquarters at Grahams Island State Park. The top 10 pros and co-anglers after Friday will hit the water Saturday morning to vie for the championship.
