The Cats Incredible catfishing tournament is coming home.
The East Grand Forks Association of Fire Fighters announced this morning that they’re taking over the Cats Incredible Catfish Tournament from The Chamber of Grand Forks and East Grand Forks. Citing declining participation and interest, The Chamber recently said it would cancel this year’s tournament April 17 if the tournament limit of 125 two-person teams wasn’t reached.
At the time, only 78 teams had signed up for the tournament.
In a news release, The Chamber and Fire Fighters group said they will work together this year to make sure the transition goes smoothly. Cats Incredible has its roots in East Grand Forks, where it was founded in 1988. Organization of Cats Incredible moved across the river to Grand Forks in 2005 when the chamber groups merged.
Teams already registered with the tournament will be transferred to the new event, and there’s still room for additional teams to sign up. With the leadership change, though, there’s no longer a requirement that the tournament reach its full allotment of teams.
“It is our goal to maintain the longstanding tradition of a quality catfish tournament in East Grand Forks,” Jeff Anderson, president of the Fire Fighters Union, said in a statement. “We do not anticipate making any tournament or rules changes from previous years.”
Additional information and entry forms are still available on The Chamber website. Teams looking to enter the tournament should submit their entries to the East Grand Forks Fire Fighters at 415 Fourth St. NW, East Grand Forks 56721. For more information, email email@example.com.
