Snow was late in arriving this winter, but it fell in time for the 2013 North Dakota State Snowmobile Ride, which gets underway Saturday in Fordville, N.D.
Hosted by the Ridge Runners Snowmobile Club, the state ride this year will highlight the Red River South trail system in Grand Forks and Walsh counties. The trail system has only been open a couple of weeks, but Thursday’s weekly report from Snowmobile North Dakota indicates the trails are open and groomed, with a base of 3 to 5 inches.
The Red River South trail system covers 139 miles and includes the communities of Fordville, Inkster, Lankin, Park River, Pisek, Honeyford, Forest River, Grand Forks, Emerado, Manvel, Arvilla, Gilby and Johnstown.
Registration for the state ride gets underway at 10 a.m. Saturday in the Fordville American Legion, and riders can register anytime until 6 p.m. There’ll be cash prizes and door prizes and a vintage snowmobile show from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Main Street in Fordville.
A dance featuring Tripwire will close out the day’s events.
