Area ski slopes gear up for season openings

A snowmaking machine shoots snow onto the slopes this afternoon at Buena Vista Ski Area north of Bemidji. Buena Vista opens for the season Saturday.

Suzanne Thomas of Buena Vista Ski Area north of Bemidji emailed several photos this afternoon showing snowmaking machines, which are going full blast to get the slopes ready for the official opening to the winter season.

Buena Vista opens for the season Saturday, as does Frostfire Ski Area near Walhalla, N.D. Both destinations are about a two-hour’s drive from Grand Forks.

Thanks to the snowmaking machines, it’s beginning to look a lot like winter in both destinations.
