The trails might be dusty, but that won’t put a damper on the Roseau-Lake of the Woods Sportsman’s Club’s sixth annual ATV Fun Run in Beltrami Island State Forest.
The event kicks off at 9 a.m. Saturday with registration at the Carp Pit Recreation Area near Roosevelt, Minn., and the ride is scheduled for 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The Fun Run features marked trails with five game stops. I attended the Fun Run in 2008, and one of the more memorable games along the route was “Potty Putt,” a competition that required players to hit a golf ball while perched on a toilet seat. Each player got three kicks at the can — or, perhaps, “on the can” would be more accurate — and could earn up to nine points for a perfect score.
Riders earn points at each of the five game stops, and the high score at each stop results in cash and prizes along with an additional cash prize for overall points.
Cost for the Fun Run is $20 per person, which includes lunch. Donations from the event will go to the Warroad (Minn.) Eagles Auxiliary gas card fund.
To reach the Carp Pit Recreation Area, take state Highway 11 east from Warroad to Roosevelt. Turn south at the Nite Hawk onto the Krull Trail, turn right onto the Carp Trail and right into the recreation area. Watch for signs.
