Eelpout Festival Includes Scotch And Kilt Parade

As an outdoor writer, I’ve gotten invitations to go on hunting and fishing excursions, but I’ll have to say the invite I received this afternoon was a first.

The makers of Laphroaig Scotch extended an offer to sample their products Feb. 17-18 during the 33rd Annual International Eelpout Festival on Leech Lake in Walker, Minn. There’s even a kilt parade across the ice “that will culminate with a warming toast of Laphroaig Scotch and a peat-brick bonfire in the middle of the lake.”

I’m not a Scotch drinker, but if I was, it would take a lot to talk me into wearing a kilt. 🙂

Previous commitments — and the fact that sampling Scotch on the job is frowned upon — prevent me from accepting the invitation, but the prospect of a Scotch-drinking kilt parade suggests that this year’s Eelpout Festival will be just as colorful as ever.
